Obviously web counts as an attack too, but before entering the mission I didn't know about this "do-not-attack-that-enemy-that-is-attacking-you-or-else-you-will-die" rule. Prior to being blown up I was flying around for quite some time, and even approaching 20km at times on dormant enemies without drawing aggroing, but once I webbed a spy...BAM!...everything attacked me at once. Half of the problem though was that when every ship in the place targeted and fired on me I was lagged to hell. I think I only got to see about 10 frames of my destruction. Any old school gamers remember the slow-down on your old NES system? Yeah...way worse than that. Due to the lag it was also difficult to tell what triggered the attack, thus why I was blown up twice.
This kind of crap is really frustrating to me. How should any normal player know that deploying drones and/or webbing 1 particular enemy out of 100 is going to aggro everything? Are we all supposed to ALT+TAB out of our game to check up every mission before going in just in case there's some random deadly level design that can only be discovered through trial and error? If so, that hardly seems like an immersive gaming experience.
I don't mind a hard mission, but make it hard because it takes real tactics, teamwork, load-out planning, etc. Random unexplained events that trigger aggro from everything and lag the zone up so bad that you can't even make an attempt to get away is not the way to make a mission "challenging". Seriously...This stuff makes me want to trade in my Eve ship for my old Lifeforce ship. I could handle some slowing for my 8-bit NES, but I shouldn't have to deal with this in the 21st century...unless Eve's devs want to give me a Konami Code option that will give me a new ship when this crap happens.
I've been playing Eve for about 2 months now with some friends. I'll freely admit that I'm still a noob in many regards. There's a lot I like about Eve, but this experience has made me strongly consider canceling my account. This just seems like incredibly poor design to me, both story-wise and technically. It's not the first time I've had experiences similar to this too. If there was a way to see this particular aggro ambush coming, without checking forums please tell me. I'll be a man and admit to being wrong if that's the case. But for the lag issue I see no excuse. If your game engine can't handle 100 enemies attacking at once, then it should be obvious not create a situation that 100 enemies could attack at once.
